FeedDemon – Reading Pane Options

Last time we talked about the Reports button (dropdown list) and the functionality built into it. Today we are going to move forward with the remaining items that are available in the reading pane tool bar. The next item is not a button but rather just a dropdown list. The default should read “Unread/Flagged” and reading pane3-1 there should be a small arrow pointing down. When you select the down arrow a list will appear with several options for you to choose from. Each of these options will have the affect of reshuffling or reorganizing the newspaper view to give you just what you have selected from the dropdown list.

As I mentioned there are several options for you to choose from starting with Unread/Flagged followed by just Unread and then just Flagged. What each will do is simply resort whatever feed you have highlighted in the folder tree to show you only what you have selected. For instance if you only want to see the Flagged items then it will remove all un-flagged items leaving just the flagged items for you to look though. The next section of options will allow you to sort on only posts from today or only posts from yesterday. You can also sort by hours so anything in the last 24 hours or in the last 48 hours. You can even tell it to sort on this week versus last week. The last option would be to show all of the posts.

The next tool on the toolbar is the Next Page button. This has reading pane3-2 the affect of moving the newspaper listings in the reading pane to the next page. It will also mark all of the headlines on the current page as read when you select the button. This functionality can also be found at the bottom of the reading pane. While I am on the subject you can also move through the pages within a subscription (or feed) by selecting the left and right arrows located in the bottomreading pane4-1 right of the reading pane. You can flip through the pages of headlines or move back if there is something that you want to check out again. The last item in the far bottom right corner of the reading pane will allow you to mark all of the posts in the current reading pane page as read.

reading pane3-4 Back to the toolbar at the top, the next tool that is available is the address box. This is where you can enter urls like you would in your normal browser and navigate around the web. The last tool in the default configuration of the tool bar is the magnifying glass. This reading pane3-3 basically houses the searches that you may have done. It will also allow you to change your default search engine (from say MSN to Google or maybe Technorati).

Next time I will go over the attention report that I breezed over in the last post.
